Future Helldivers 2 patches will be quality over quantity says Arrowhead (2024)

Arrowhead fixed Helldivers 2 Major Order's biggest issue over the weekend and warns players that future patches will be less frequent to 'reduce pressure' on the team.

Since Helldivers 2 launched, Arrowhead has been deploying updates on an almost weekly basis. But the patches have been slowing down in recent weeks, and there's a very good reason for that.

Helldivers 2 had a hugely successful launch, and a large part of that was down to the transparency of developer Arrowhead, and its active involvement with the community. Patches have been rolling out on a regularly scheduled weekly basis for months now, with hotfixes and supplemental updates being dropped in between. However, it's been pretty quiet on the Helldivers 2 patch front over the last few weeks, which hasn't helped goodwill from the community, especially in the wake of the Helldivers 2 PSN debacle.

The last Helldivers 2 patch to drop on the weekly Tuesday schedule was the May 14 update which mostly focused on some necessary fixes. It's been tumbleweed since then, but an emergency Helldivers 2 patch did just drop on Saturday, June 6 to fix the spawning bug that was wreaking havoc with the last Major Order. Arrowhead social media and community manager, Katherine Baskin, acknowledged that the Bile Titans and breaches spawning on the drill was, in fact, unintentional, and not just a devilish move by Helldivers 2 GM Joel. You can see her Discord post copied and pasted over on Reddit.

Alongside the Helldivers 2 patch notes, the devs shared another update on Saturday admitting that patches are being deployed at a less frequent rate and that they "should have communicated this change more clearly from the start." But there's good reason. Taking to Discord as well as the game's subreddit, Arrowhead says fewer patches will allow more meaningful community engagement, higher quality updates, and less pressure (and mental toll) on the team in terms of burnout and a sustainable work pace. As a result, future Helldivers 2 patches will be "more impactful" and create "a more enjoyable game experience for everyone."

Helldivers 2 patches have historically dropped almost every Tuesday at around 10.05am BST / 5.05am EDT / 2.05am PDT, with the developer settling into that pattern since the February 28 update that squashed the infinite Strategem glitch. What the new Helldivers 2 patch schedule will look like, we don't know just yet, with the developer promising more details in a future blog post.

However, we do know that the next Helldivers 2 patch is coming in the second week of this month, with Tuesday, June 11 at around 10.05am BST / 5.05am EDT / 2.05am PDT being my guess, ahead of the next Warbond drop on Thursday, June 13. Unless Arrowhead is going to start shaking things up immediately and landing on an entirely new day and time to drop the update. In the meantime, you can catch up on the Helldivers 2 patch notes from the weekend below (as taken from the Steam update).

Fixes

  • Fixed an issue causing enemies to spawn on the drill during the Operation: Enduring Peace order mission.

Known Issues

These are issues that were either introduced by this patch and are being worked on, or are from a previous version and have not yet been fixed.

  • Players may not have the option to send, accept or decline friend requests.
  • Players may not have the option to Block other players.
  • Blocked players are not added to the Blocked Player list or prevented from joining games.
  • Game may crash if the player changes the text language while on a mission.
  • Players may experience delays in Medals and Super Credits payouts.
  • Players may occasionally receive excessive XP.
  • Enemies that bleed out do not progress Personal Orders and Eradicate missions.
  • Arc weapons sometimes behave inconsistently and sometimes misfire.
  • Most weapons shoot below the crosshair when aiming down the sights.
  • AR-61 Tenderizer deals too little damage and is not in the final state we are intending.
  • Spear’s targeting is inconsistent, making it hard to lock-on to larger enemies.
  • Stratagem beam might attach itself to an enemy but it will deploy to its original location.
  • Helldiver may be unable to stand up from crouching when surrounded by enemies.
  • "Hand Carts" Ship module does not reduce Shield Generator Pack's cooldown.
  • Some players might become stuck in the Loadout when joining a game in progress.
  • Reinforcement may not be available for some players who join a game in progress.
  • Planet liberation reaches 100% at the end of every Defend mission.

If you've been playing the game for a while, seeing friend request issues still rearing their head in known issues in Helldivers 2 patch notes may be a bit frustrating, but at least it's being worked on. We'll be keeping our eyes peeled for the next update next week, and what that has in store.
